# Pricing your services
## How to set your consultation fees: compare the market for your profession, adjust for experience and session length, and check your price covers your income goal.
Set your fees in three steps: see what others in your profession charge, adjust for your experience and session length, then check the price meets your income goal.
### **Step 1: Compare the market**
| Profession | Initial consult | Follow-up |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Dietitian | $150–$220 | $90–$150 |
| Naturopath | $150-$250 | $100-$180 |
| Nutritionist | $100-$180 | $70-$130 |
| Physiotherapist | $110-$160 | $90-$130 |
| Exercise physiologist | $120-$170 | $100-$140 |
| Psychologist | $220-$350 | $220-$350 |
| Occupational therapist | $190-$270 | $180-$250 |
| Speech pathologist | $190-$250 | $100-$195 |
| Podiatrist | $90-$140 | $70-$110 |
Capital cities and specialist niches sit at the top of these ranges. Check competitors' websites and directory listings in your area too.
### **Step 2: Adjust for experience and session length**
| Experience | Where to price |
| --- | --- |
| New graduate (0–2 years) | Lower end of the range |
| Experienced (3–10 years) | Middle of the range |
| Specialist or 10+ years | Top of the range or above |
Price by session length, not just by visit type. For example, offer a 60-minute initial consult, 45-minute follow-ups and 30-minute reviews, each with its own fee.
### **Step 3: Check it meets your income goal**
Work out the minimum average fee you need:
**Minimum fee = (Income goal + Yearly business costs) ÷ (Consults per week × Working weeks per year)**
**Example:** you want $90,000 a year, your costs are $15,000, and you plan 20 consults a week for 44 weeks. $105,000 ÷ 880 consults = **$119 per consult**, before tax and super.
**Medicare-referred clients**
Clients with a GP chronic condition management plan can claim a Medicare rebate for a limited number of allied health sessions each year. They pay your fee and the rebate comes back to them, so the difference is their gap. Rebates are lodged automatically through Tyro Health. The current rebate amount ffrom Medicare is $63.40.
**Packages and programs**
Bundling sessions (for example, an initial consult plus three follow-ups) gives clients a clear plan and gives you predictable income.
